Laughter is the Best Medicine!

Today my children and I were enjoying gorgeous weather, running through the sprinkler to keep cool and picnicking outside. We like to make up our own “knock knock” jokes sometimes while we eat. My one son begged me to look up jokes about poop, and we ended up finding a web-page where baby bibs had the funniest sayings. Here are a few:

“I’m going green, in my diaper.”
“Poop loading. 80% complete.”
“I’m smiling because I pooped.”
“Want to see my compost pile?”
“I’m on all liquid diet.”
“Yes it’s full and yes, it’s your turn!”

I started to recall things my kids have said that have cracked me up, the few that I can remember off the top of my head:

Luke at age 3, after learning about Jesus’ resurrection: “Mom, look at this fish by the river.” (I look and it’s dead). “Don’t worry mom, ‘cuz in just 3 more days…”!

Bennett at age 5: “Mom, can I have another ‘Fruit by the Toe?’ ” (instead of “Fruit by the Foot”)!

Laurelle at age 3 on the potty: “Mom, I just pooped a family!” (She counts and shows me the mommy, daddy and all their babies)

Davin’s favorite sentence at age 2, and the beginning of any tantrum: “I don’t like it!”
Davin again, at age 2, handing me a diaper and baby wipes: “I got poops!”

Hopefully you smiled reading this! If you are like me, I find laughter can be hard to come by because we can be so “task-oriented” as adults. Let’s learn from the little ones in our lives, and use laughter as medicine for our spirits.

Share anything funny that has happened to you recently or that you can remember! We all need a good laugh EVERY DAY!!!

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

Be a TREE OF HOPE and let LAUGHTER fill your HEART. 🙂

  • As adults we forget how intelligent these little ones are! A humorous AND thought-provoking story to share! Thank you, Marcia. 🙂

  • I enjoyed reading each one of the stories you all share! Children are spontaneous they will call anything as they see it! Without filters.
I remembered my sister telling me about my nice Helen, she was 5 years old. Helen saw many of her peers being sat on what her teacher called
“The thinking chair” this chair was used for any child that missed behaved during class. The purpose of this practice was to make children reflect on their actions hoping they will listen and pay attention.
Helen was very curious about what possible thoughs her peers were having there so one day she decided to miss behaved. She want it to experience being on the “The thinking chair”. My sister got called by the teacher because Helen was not behaving in class.
My sister asked Helen what happen? Why you didn’t listen to your teacher? Helen answered. “I wanted it to experience what my peers were experiencing while sitting in the thinking chair. Mom! nothing happens, I don’t know why the teacher calls that chair The thinking chair”

  • Oh, tickling is such a fun way to get an easy laugh, right?! I have been trying to lighten up and laugh more WITH my kids, being a part of whatever they are doing that is so hilarious to them! How fun that he asks to be tickled, because he knows the bonding and smiles that will come from it! Thanks for sharing, Kristen!

  • Drew just likes to laugh and many times asks to be tickled and sometimes if I put a stop to it he gets upset and just wants to laugh and goof off with me. Thank you for the reminder to embrace it and enjoy it while he is in my care. Nothing beats his belly laughs! ❤

My 4 year old just recently told me that his voice sounds funny sometimes because he swallowed his boogers. And when he was potty training one time and I caught him outside peeing on the front lawn he said " the grass was thirsty momma." Children although tiresome are good for some comedic relief!
