I have not been posting as regularly as I would like, and sometimes it can be hard to think of what to share and write. Today I had my idea early on, inspiration that came from a complete stranger.
It was about noon and my crew of four children and I were headed home from a park, a fifteen minute walk back to our house. We were only a few minutes into our journey when we passed a house, and outside a guy with a long beard was putting what looked like some sports gear into the back of his trunk. It’s strange that I don’t remember exactly what he said, but rather how he said it; he was intentionally trying to be friendly and show God’s heart and love as I walked by with two of my kids on scooters, and two in a stroller I was pushing. It was refreshing. He was being a light, a light for Christ, to ME and my family!
I think I would have asked him if he was a Christian anyway, but I happened to see on his shirt that he had a cross design inside of a heart. He was a believer, and I shared that I was as well. He went inside and brought out his wife and a few of their children to introduce to us, and we chatted for awhile. He was just heading out to possibly exercise and go about his day, but he saw an opportunity and God’s heart overtook him. He decided to shine.
Interestingly, right before leaving to go to the park today, I re-read Matthew 5:14 which states, “You are the light of the world,” and the verses surrounding it. My kids and I prayed for neighbors and friends who don’t know Jesus as their Savior, and for us to shine Him to them.
I have to admit, most of the time I feel like no one would be there, reaching out to me if I were an unbeliever. Even as a Christian, I can tire of always being the one to reach out, to start a conversation with those I don’t know. Yet, today I felt hope. Hope that there are Christians out there who are truly passionate about Jesus and cannot hold back from SHARING HIM.
It’s not about being pushy or winning an argument. Rather, it starts with simply shining THE LIGHT, Jesus Christ. Pray for God’s heart for the world, and you can’t help but be BOLD with HIS light in YOU towards others.
SHINE ON….We all need to see THE LIGHT.
